    Successful Bass Fishing requires a good knowledge of bass fishing techniques. Smallmouth Bass love rocks and spend most of their lives near these structures. In rivers, rocky, gravel-covered, bottoms are preferable for this bass fish and usually they will not inhabit soft, sandy, or muddy bottoms. Smallmouths that hang out in rivers will congregate in shallow, rocky pools and ledges in the springtime, when temperatures are cooler.

    In rivers, they will also congregate in grass beds, weed patches and banks. Be certain to use bass fishing lures that resist snags. As summer heats up, they will go deeper in the river’s main channels or faster moving, and thus cooler, waters.

    Smallmouth Bass spawn in a water temperature of 62 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit, between April and June. They spawn in two to 10 feet of water, where the males will guard the nest for around a month, until the fry can swim well.
