What is a good time to start the bass fishing season?

I want to start bass fishing this year, but I’m not sure what’s the best time to start. When I started last year, my results wre varied form trip to trip. Some days were really good, others were like fishing in the dead of winter. I just want to start at the right time. A good time would also include a time where I won’t be cold, I cannot stand even the slightest cold.

March is the time to strike here in the US. The bass have come out of winter hybernation, and are beginning to spawn (reproduce).

You can get some monsters as the big momma bass are usually sitting on the nest and will attack anything you throw at them, worms, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs…Just ask the 24″ 6.24 lber on my wall. ;)

Now I fish bass tourneys and always catch and release. Good luck and good fishing!

Where do you fish? In southern Ontario the season is closed until the last Saturday in June. In many parts of the US you can fish for bass all year, although I don’t understand why people are allowed to catch bass when they’re spawning or when the males are still on the redds. Even if they practise CPR (Catch, Photograph, Release), during the time that a bass is on the hook a bunch of perch or other fish can move in and devour the eggs or fry.
